Tectonic Plates

We created our own tectonic plates today. Ours were definitely tastier than the earth's. We looked at how the plates move against each other. We learned the words divergent, convergent and transform.

Digi tech

Over the year we have been lucky enough to have Rachel from Core Ed come in and work with us. Here is a selection of photos showing how engaged we are when we are working with digital technology. Some of these activities were 'unplugged'.

Year 4 Dictionaries

Today, the Year 4s have been presented with their very own dictionary. The dictionaries are colourful and we will definitely treasure them.

Beginning of the year activities.

It has been a busy start to the year in Room 8.
But before we talk about some of our activities, we need to introduce ourselves...

We are a busy class of 27 Year 3 and 4 children. We are lucky enough to have 2 teachers. Mrs. Buschl works for 4 days and Mrs. Lord works on Thursdays.
We love sharing our learning and will show you some of what we learn on this Blog.

Over the last few weeks, we have been looking after Monarch butterflies. we have been fascinated watching them grow from eggs through to the beautiful butterflies. We learnt that the transformation is called metamorphosis.

                                .

Almost ready to emerge from the chrysalis.

                                     .

                                            Another one drying its wings.

We were excited to see if it was male or female.

It was both sad and exciting when we set them free.

TERM 4

Term has started with a bang.

At the end of last week, we went to Waiora Scout Camp for 2 days. The year 3 children from Mrs P's class came to join in on the activities on Friday.

As a class we made some goals before we headed off to camp. I was very impressed at how seriously the children took this and I think these goals were spot on and definitely achieved!

Room 8 Camp Goals

Be grateful
Try new things
Try different foods
Get on with each other and work together
Manage myself and my belongings
Have a good sleep
Listen to other people
Have a positive attitude

Here are just a few photos to give you a taste of what we got up to.

                                                                         Day 1.

Organising our groups at the start of camp.

Heading off on our walk. Energy levels and excitement level were high.

The stream was a great place to have lunch, explore...

and catch some yabbies!

Building our shelters where we had our dinner.
Lots of discussion, listening to each other and working together needed.

Beginning of Day 2.

Archery was just one of the activities in our rotation. This was enjoyed by all.

End of a very enjoyable and successful camp.

Special End of Term Surprise

We were lucky enough to have Mabel and Greers's ponies to visit us.
For some of us, it was our first time on a pony. It was certainly a real treat.

Thank you Donya for bringing them to school.
